Genshin Impact Mobile version hits over $3 billion in gross revenue

The mobile version of HoYoVerse‘s flagship open-world role playing game, Genshin Impact, has become one of the top-grossing mobile games in the world.

According to a research from digital market analytics firm, Sensor Tower, the mobile version of Genshin Impact made over $3 billion during the course of its two-year existence. Having accrued over 17 million downloads on mobile devices in the first four days of release alone, the game has continued to grow at a rapid pace. The game gets more than 63 million active players in a single month as per statistics given by Activeplayer.io.

Genshin Impact trails Tencent’s PUBG Mobile at second place, which has made $4.9 billion in the last two years, and Honor of Kings at the top spot, which has made $5.5 billion. Both games are produced by Chinese game developer, Tencent.

Genshin Impact ranks second for mobile game player spending outside of China, grossing $2.5 billion across the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It ranks above Candy Crush Saga from King at No. 3 with $2.3 billion, and just behind Roblox from Roblox Corporation at No. 1 with $2.5 billion.

In the first two years of Genshin Impact’s existence, China was the top market for player expenditure, accounting for $1.2 billion, or around 33% of total revenue, through iOS alone (Sensor Tower does not track spending on third-party Android stores, such as those found in China). The United States came in third with 17 percent, while Japan came in second with around 24 percent of the total revenue.

Genshin Impact currently earns $1 billion every six months on average, effectively making it stay consistently in the top 5 highest-grossing mobile games worldwide. Genshin Impact is now one of the most expensive live service games, with the Chinese studio spending almost $200 million annually to sustain and develop it.
