Dimapur/Kohima, Oct. 11 (EMN): Deputy Commissioner of Longleng M Shayung Phom on Monday asserted the need to stop discrimination of girl child and uplift gender equality in the family and community.
He was speaking at a programme on the occasion of International Day of Girl Child 2021 on the theme ‘digital generation, our generation’ at Phom Lempong Convention Hall in Longleng, an update from DPRO Longleng informed.
The DC appealed the gathering to realise the importance of observing the day by honouring and respecting every girl child, beginning from the family to the community.
‘Highlighting the importance of women in modern society, he urged the male counterparts to realise and acknowledge the contribution of women in society by honouring and supporting them with love and care,’ it read.
Referring to the theme, he said ‘we are living in a digital world where we have become part of the digital system’.
Therefore, he urged the students to use it wisely and assured to extend all possible help to uplift the girl child in the district.
It stated that Chingmei, EAC HQ, Longleng spoke on the theme, ‘Digital Generation, Our Generation’ and while Kezevinuo Thepa, Superintendent, Observation Home Longleng spoke on rights and responsibilities of girl child.
The highlights of the day-long celebration were a special number on BBBP by Government High School, Nyenching, drama on discrimination of girl child in the family and community by St. Joseph School, gender inequality by Christian High School, folk fusion music by Phom Lempong School, cultural dance by Bautung Government Higher Secondary School, poetry slam by Vision Vale School and Shamakok Mission School and spot painting competition by girl students.
The programme was organised by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), District Administration and Mahila Shakti Kendra – District Level Centre for Women (MSK-DLCW), Longleng Nagaland.
International day of Girl Child celebrated in Mon, Kohima
Commemorating International Day of Girl Child, a programme was held at District Hospital in Mon on Monday on the theme, “Rise up for a better world”.
A press release informed that the programme was organised by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Mon under the department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland in collaboration with Childline and Child Welfare Committee, Mon.
It stated that the DCPO, Mon and staff handed over tokens to all the patients from 0-18 years, while wishing them a speedy recovery.
Joining the rest of the world, Sakhi – One Stop Center (OSC) Kohima in collaboration with Bright Morning Star Children Home (BMSCH) Kohima celebrated International Day of Girl Child at BMSCH Kohima.
An update informed that Repabenla Longkumer, case worker at Sakhi- OSC gave a brief introduction on Sakhi- One Stop Center and encouraged the boys to support girls and practice equality.
It stated that the programme was chaired by the Probation Officer (PO) of BMSCH, Watisenla wherein the highlight of the programme included a talent show and entertainment.
In the talent show competition- Dolensangla (Singing) emerged as the winner while first runner-up was won by Maria Ashu (dance) and second runner-up was won by Nyiemangmongsen Chang (preaching).
