DISMAYED over non-advertisement of vacant JE posts and system of promotion ratio in the Electrical department, the Graduate Electrical Engineers’ Association of Nagaland (GEEAN) and All Nagaland Unemployed Diploma Electrical Engineers Association (ANUDEEA) have decided to launch agitation against the Power department from November 1.In a statement, jointly signed by GEEAN president Meshenlo Kath and ANUDEEA president Hitolu Yeptho, the two organizations demanded that the department of Power advertise all the vacant posts under it and conduct the exam through NPSC. They also demanded that no promotion should be made from lower grade to JE unless the ratio as per Engineering Service Rule (90:10) is maintained.
The statement listed out the grievances of GEEAN and ANUDEEA towards the department that there has been no advertisement for the post of JE for five years, while RTI indicated many vacancies. It also pointed out that as per the Engineering Service Rule, 127, out of the total 141 sanctioned posts of JE is to be filled through direct recruitment, and only 14 posts to be filled through promotion from lower grade i.e. 90:10 (direct: promotion). However, the present existing appointment ratio in the department is 83 promotees and only 49 direct recruitments, the statement said.
Stating that there has not been any positive response from the department on these issues even after being approached by the associations several times, the statement said the GEEAN and ANUDEEA along with the assistance of All Nagaland College Students’ Union and other organizations have called for the agitation against the Power department demanding for their rights.
Meanwhile, the associations clarified that they were not against any individual working under the department but that the agitation is being called towards the department to be fair in its approach and functioning in all aspects.
