GBs urged to maintain integrity

DIMAPUR, JUNE 24: The GBs of all colonies in the district should prove one’s integrity while issuing ‘Residential Certificates’ to any person said ADC Elizabeth Ngullie. She said this while addressing the 18th General Session of the GB’s Union Dimapur held at Lotha Hoho Ki, Dimapur, on June 24.

Stating that increasing population is severely affecting the demography in the district, the ADC urged upon the GBs to be aware of providing RC to any individuals especially to ones who does not fulfill the criteria needed for the registration. She said every GB should check the authenticity before making any decisions. She said signatures of GBs should not be misused at any cost.

Speaking amongst the GBs of Dimapur, she said they are not only the village elders but also the most important agents of the state government who works for the welfare of the society.

She suggested discussions among the elders in order to tackle issues and challenges for development and advancement of the society.Speaking on the electoral roll, Elizabeth said that while the administration is working towards clean election, the GBs should also strive for clean election and do away with voting problem. While citing proxy voting and other kinds of corruptions, she attributed that ‘we are the one corrupting the system.’ She also suggested GBs to take up various awareness programmes on disaster management so as to stay prepared for untoward calamities.

Sensing the lack of ‘civic sense’ among the people in general, the ADC requested all present to focus on clean environment while considering ‘sanitation aspect as a major issue for discussion.

SDO (Civil), Moa Sangtam, in his exhortation, called upon the GBs to dress the uniform of ‘Integrity, Honesty and Boldness’ from the inside while working for the society.

Speaking on the role of GBs in the state, SDO said the GBs of the past offered better status when compared with today’s.

Secretary DAN, Imti, also exhorted the gathering. He said all GBs along with the people of the their respective colonies should work together for ‘unity, peace and justice.’ He also highlighted on the upcoming National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM). He also advised the GBs to be strong and unshaken with various social activities taking place.

The formal meeting was followed by discussions among the GBs with the drafting of Union Constitution.
