Dimapur, Sep. 14 (EMN): Citing ‘practical difficulties’ faced while obtaining aadhaar cards currently, the GBs union, Dimapur has asked the department of Food and Civil Supplies (FCS) to keep in abeyance the central government’s directive to link aadhaar with ration cards.
The GBs union on Thursday, through a press statement, expressed concern over the government directive to submit ‘aadhaar of the ration card holders and their family members with Priority House Hold (PHH) scheme.’
It stated that the PHH scheme was to be renewed after a period of three years and, if necessary, the department concerned should process the proposed system only after the expiry of the vailidty period. The department, it reasoned, should realise ‘the practical difficulties in obtaining aadhaar card at present juncture as most of the enrolment is under process or has been rejected due to technical problem which needed sufficient time.’
The union also pointed out that many beneficiaries were yet to receive PHH scheme card submitted earlier ‘and even the replacement of beneficiaries for ration cards had not been materialized.’ Then, it cited the Supreme Court verdict which decreed that aadhaar should not be made mandatory for any kind of welfare schemes.
It requested the FCS department to keep the order in abeyance “until the renewal year which will be in 2019 making it amble time for the card holders and their families to obtain aadhaar enrolment.”
