GB Union Dimapur has raised concern over alleged improper disposal of dead pig carcasses and animal waste, urging authorities to inspect the farm and take action.
DIMAPUR — The GB Union Dimapur (GBUD) has expressed serious concern over the disposal of dead pig carcasses in a nallah/river and extended its support to the Niu Colony Council and gaon burahs (GBs) on the issue.
In a statement, the union said media reports indicated that a pig farm in the area was allegedly not being managed hygienically, with meat and animal innards reportedly being disposed of randomly within the farm premises and in the nearby nallah.
The GBUD said such practices posed a serious public health concern for residents living in the locality and called for immediate attention from the concerned authorities.
The union urged the Veterinary department to effectively monitor pig farms within its jurisdiction on a daily basis, keeping in view the potential consequences of such practices on public health.

It also requested the district administration and the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to conduct an inspection and take appropriate action.
The GBUD further cautioned pig farm operators to ensure that their farms were managed in accordance with prescribed norms.
It stated that failure to comply with the relevant regulations would prompt the union to pursue the matter with the competent authority, including seeking action for negligence and cancellation of the farm's permit.
