Peace Channel teaches students the way to having a fruitful career

Dimapur, Nov. 17 (EMN): There are a number of clear steps that students need to take when choosing a profession. It includes identifying their field of interest, seeking and gathering information about it, and setting goals. After it, students need to create an action plan to work toward the goals. These were some of the tips that students were given during a career guidance programme conducted by Peace Channel in Kohima. A career guidance programme organised by Peace Channel was conducted on November 16 at the Model Christian College in Kohima. About 113 students attended the programme, updates on November 17 issued by the organisers informed. The resources persons for the programme were Peace Channel’s researcher Katini Eshena; district animator Alino S Chishi and social development specialist from the PMAY Pursungit, the updates stated. A member of the organisers Alino S Chishi conducted a session on goal setting. She spoke about the importance of career guidance calling it a basic requirement for students to build confidence, and to help them acquire knowledge. Likewise, it helps them to get information about best career opportunities, and the skills to identify career options to make one’s career decision toward a meaningful and purposeful life. Likewise, Chishi spoke about the importance of setting goals to achieve, and exploring and identifying interests, and being prepared to face challenges or change. She taught the participants about the different ways and techniques of setting goals, and other specific long-term and short-term goals. Chishi gave some tips on how to track their progress too. She advised the students to be more curious and not to be sceptical but rather seek information to clear doubts. It will provide them clues that will lead them toward achieving their goals and turning their dreams into reality, she told the participants.   Also, resource Katini Eshena spoke about the importance of decision making. She spoke about the process of taking decisions about careers which individuals need to decide upon through self-assessment, career exploration, analysing information, choosing a specific profession and developing a plan of action. The press release stated: “She also stressed on career management skills and the factors which can make decision effectively. Adding to that she also said that youth of today are becoming lazier as they seek for shortcut and waiting for spoon-fed through social media without utilizing their inner talents and not exploring their talents and interest which is the reasons many are lacking skills.” Eshena advised the students to explore the opportunities and resources that are available. They were told to use it ‘selectively’ which will benefit the individual to better careers. Likewise, Pursungit gave a presentation about the different careers that are available to students after their bachelor’s degrees. He said there are many career options but many youths are stuck with few traditional jobs. ‘Therefore, setting goals is a vital practice to build their dream.’ Pursungit spoke also about the availability of higher courses, various top colleges and institutes, fellowships and scholarships for students, both national and international. Further, he gave tips to the gathering in how to interact during interviews; and guidelines on etiquette.
