THE picturesque Naga Heritage Village Kisama, permanent site of the Festival of Festivals “Hornbill Festival of Nagaland”, today added an ethnic wooden craft “Naga Traditional Welcome Gate” with traditional fineries of the Naga tribes.
Minister for Tourism and Art & Culture EE Pangteang formally inaugurated the gate at a brief function today.
In his address, Pangteang said, “The gate portrays the unique culture of all the Nagas, taking the visitors through the passage of to the window of Nagaland and finally to the Naga Heritage Village”.
He said the government alone cannot maintain all the infrastructure/assets created and appealed to the citizens of the State to preserve the public property created to serve the common interest of the people.
Expressing that in today’s world the concept of complete dependency on the government is no more valid, he said the government’s role is increasingly being confined to that of a facilitator and provider for the basic development requirement of the State.
“The public therefore have to change the mindset to these changing realities,” he explained.
Pangteang said the department should feel proud that they are the ambassador of unity at this Naga heritage village.
Also speaking on the occasion, Commissioner and Secretary I Himato Zhimomi said in earlier days gates used to be constructed to protect the village from outside forces, but this gate would welcome outside world to understand the Naga culture and tradition better.
He also said the department would work towards making Kisama a happening place round the year.
The programme was chaired by Tourism Director Purukha Angami. Tourism Engineer Wing, Executive Engineer, Toba presented the technical report while Additional Director KT Thomas tendered the vote of thanks.
Parliamentary Secretaries R. Tohanba & Kropol Vitsu, MLAs Toyang Changkong Chang and Picto Shohe were also present during the function.
