Ganja worth Rs 27 lakhs seized in Kohima

Dimapur, September 26: Kohima police manning Peducha police check gate, during routine checking and frisking of vehicles, intercepted one Guwahati bound truck bearing registration number AS01DC 6717 and recovered a total of 540 kgs of contraband ganja worth Rs 27,00,000 in the national market. SDPO (S) and PRO Kohima, Atu Zumvu, in a press statement, said the contraband ganja was found neatly packed in 26 packets weighing 15 kgs each and 30 packets weighing 5 kgs each concealed inside a special compartment of the truck body especially designed for transporting illegal consignments.The driver of the vehicle identified as Hemanta Thakuria, son of Lawanja Thakuria, of Amabari village in Kamrup district, Assam, was taken into police custody. During interrogation, the driver revealed that the consignment was loaded from Kanglatongbi, Imphal. He also disclosed that the owner of the consignment namely Mima (a Manipuri lady) assured to pay him Rs 20,000 for transporting the item to Guwahati. Case in this connection has been registered with Sechü (Zubza) police station for conducting further investigation.
