Gandhi siblings pay tributes to former PM Rajiv Gandhi

Dimapur, May 21 (EMN): All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday paid tributes to her father, the former prime minister of India Rajiv Gandhi by tweeting an emotional post on his 29th death anniversary.

Gandhi also posted a picture stating ‘last photo with father.’

“To be kind to those who are unkind to you; to know that life is fair, no matter how unfair you imagine it to be; to keep walking, no matter how dark the skies or fearsome the storm; To nurture a strong heart, and fill it with love no matter how great it’s sorrows; these are the gifts of my father’s life,” her tweet read.

Priyanka’s brother Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to his father saying ‘he will always stay alive in my heart.’

“In memory of my beloved father, Shri Rajiv Gandhi, who was martyred this day in 1991. He was a wonderful father; gentle, kind, compassionate & patient. I miss him. But he will always stay alive in my heart & in the wonderful memories I have of him,” tweeted Gandhi.

Earlier in the day, prime minster Narendra Modi paid his tribute to former prime minister.

“On his death anniversary, tributes to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi,” tweeted prime minister Modi on Thursday.

Former prime minister and Congress leader Rajiv Ratna Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944. He took over as the 6th prime minister of India in 1984, at the age of 40, after the assassination of his mother and then prime minister of India Indira Gandhi in 1984. He served as the 6th prime minister of India from 1984 to 1989.

Born on August 20 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a suicide bomber of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, during an election rally on May 21 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
