DIMAPUR — During the opening match of the 4th Late G Rio Memorial Men's U-19 Inter-District Tournament at Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Chümoukedima, the game between Chümoukedima and Zunheboto was interrupted by rain and Zunheboto eventually claimed victory by 38 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
Zunheboto, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, managed to reach a respectable total of 246 runs, losing 8 wickets in the process. The highlight of Zunheboto's innings was Raja's unbeaten 106 runs, according to an update.
In Chümoukedima's bowling lineup, Aloto Sumi stood out as the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4 wickets. Bendangwapang contributed with 2 wickets, while Akesho Jishing and Ronald Yanthan each secured a wicket.
When the rain stopped the game after 22.3 overs, Chümoukedima's inning had started off well, but a quick succession of wickets in the middle overs had left them in a precarious position at 74/5.
In the other match between Wokha and Niuland, held at Sovima Cricket Ground, Niuland emerged victorious, securing the win by 5 wickets.
Wokha, having won the toss and elected to bat first, were dismissed for a paltry total of 75 runs in 29.2 overs. Only three players managed to reach double figures, with Liren scoring 15 runs, Mharen contributing 11 runs, and Pothungo adding 12 runs to the total.
Sujit Kumar, Rohan, and Pawan each claimed 2 wickets for Niuland, while Kumar, Jatin, Darah, and Vikash took 1 wicket apiece.
Niuland successfully chased down the target in only 18.2 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Kumar top-scored for the Niuland side with an unbeaten 30 runs. Meribemo was the standout bowler for the Wokha side, claiming 3 wickets.
