G Rio U-19 tournament: Wokha, Zunheboto secure dominant wins

DIMAPUR — The second day of the ongoing 4th Late G Rio Memorial Men’s U-19 Inter-District Cricket Tournament witnessed contrasting wins for Wokha and Zunheboto at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground, respectively.

In the match played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Wokha beat Tseminyu by a massive 140 runs, according to an update.

Batting first, Wokha posted a total of 169 runs in 29.1 overs, with contributions from Liren Jungio (22 runs), Mharen (19 runs), and Renben Kikon (17 runs). For Tseminyu, Gwakenye Khing claimed 4 wickets, while Achyelo Semp and Sonyelo Kent each secured 2 wickets. Yhunilo Kent and Sobinlo Semy also contributed with 1 wicket each.

In reply, Tseminyu’s inning was cut short at a mere 29 runs in 11.3 overs. Meribemo Kikon starred with an impressive 5-wicket haul, and Shahil grabbed the tournament’s first hat-trick. Sonyelo Kent’s 18 not out was the only double-digit score for Tseminyu.

Zunheboto extended their winning streak by defeating Peren by 5 wickets in the match played at Sovima Cricket Ground. After electing to bat first, Peren could only manage 53 runs in 22.5 overs, with Anurag’s 21 runs being the top score. Rahul and Raja bagged 3 wickets each for Zunheboto, while Aarush took 2 and Oloka took 1.

In their chase, Zunheboto overcame an early wobble, losing 5 wickets, as Raja’s unbeaten 24 runs guided them to a comfortable 5-wicket win in 14 overs.

With this victory, Zunheboto have secured their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.
