G Rio to face Mt Sinai HSS in Pool A final
Kohima, July 7 (EMN): G.Rio School narrowly defeated St. Marys’ HSS 1-0 in the quarterfinal at the ongoing 1st Kohima District Inter-School Football tournament at Kohima local ground on Friday and set up a clash with Mount Sinai in the Pool A final on July 10.
The tournament is jointly organised by Royal Club Kohima and School Education department.
Angba’s goal was the only difference between the two teams as neither side had offered much chance in the game. The two teams were challenging each other out in the midfield, but G.Rio School took the lead when Angba headed the only goal into an unguarded net from a close range in the 79th minute.
St. Marys’ HSS were a better side in the first half but a determined G Rio defended the scoreline as the first half ended in a scoreless draw.
Due to foggy weather, the second half was delayed, but with resumption in play, G. Rio School incited a handful of chances but failed to find the back of the net with the unsuccessful attempts. G Rio should have taken the lead in 68th minute, however, Sangti’s shot was deflected by the keeper.
But thanks to Angba’s header there was no comeback from St Mary’s side as G Rio rounded the game with the victory.
Kikhruvo of G.Rio was cautioned with a yellow card in the 22nd minute for foul play.
Earlier St. Mary’s HSS defeated BMS Jotsoma by 2-0 but their tournament saga ended on Friday with a loss against G. Rio.
With a game remaining for the pool finals, Ministers’ Hill Baptist HSS will face the winner of Mt. Hermon HSS vs Riizhiikhrie HSS on July 11 in Pool B final.
