  • G Rio Men’s U19 Tournament: Zunheboto, Kohima advance

  • DIMAPUR — Zunheboto and Kohima on Monday registered wins in their respective matches at the ongoing 5th Late G Rio Men’s U19 Tournament 2025.

  • In  a low-scoring encounter between Zunheboto and Tseminyu at the Sovima Cricket Ground, Zunheboto won by 4 wickets, an update stated. The match saw an outstanding bowling display by Yeshika Zhimomi, who played a pivotal role in securing the win.

  • Tseminyu won the toss and elected to bat first but faced a disciplined Zunheboto bowling attack. They were bowled out for 79 runs in 32.2 overs. Sonyelo Kent was the lone bright spot in the innings, scoring 27 off 34 balls.

  • Zunheboto’s star of the innings was Yeshika Zhimomi, who delivered a devastating spell, picking up 5 wickets for just 16 runs in 9 overs, completely dismantling the Tseminyu batting line-up.

  • Chasing 80 runs for victory, Zunheboto made early progress but lost a few quick wickets along the way. However, Abhi Das ensured there were no further hiccups, guiding his side home with a composed 29 off 40 balls.

  • For Tseminyu, Sonyelo Kent followed up his batting effort with an impressive bowling spell, finishing with 4/25 in 7 overs, creating pressure in the middle overs. Despite his efforts, Zunheboto successfully chased down the target in 19.2 overs.

  • For his match-defining bowling performance—5 wickets for 16 runs in 9 overs—Yeshika Zhimomi was awarded the Player of the Match.

  • Meanwhile, at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Chümoukedima, Kohima secured a convincing 9-wicket victory over Tuensang.

  • Tuensang won the toss and opted to bat first but faced immediate trouble against Kohima’s relentless bowling attack. They were bundled out for just 49 runs in 14.5 overs, with Phololi the only batter reaching double digits, scoring 19 off 35 balls.

  • Kohima’s bowling was clinical and well-coordinated. Vizoletuo Zhale led the charge with 3 wickets for 9 runs in 5 overs, while Sangtsulen Tshunherii and Jenithung Ezung both picked up 3 wickets each for 12 runs, wrapping up the innings swiftly.

  • Kohima made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 7.4 overs with 9 wickets in hand. Tachuye Trakha remained unbeaten on 19 off 26 balls, guiding his team home with composure.

  • Tuensang managed to pick up one wicket through Aratsa Mongzar, who finished with 1/14 in 2 overs, but the total proved too low to defend.

  • For his sharp and economical bowling spell of 3/9 in 5 overs, Vizoletuo Zhale was named the Player of the Match.
