Fusion SC sets up MDFA final clash with Dilong Youth Association
‘Superman’ Nungsangyanger saves DYA’s hope
Mokokchung, October 24: Defending champions Fusion SC outplayed last year’s runner-up Shitilong Sporting Club by a lone goal to storm into the final of the ongoing MDFA trophy while in the second semi-final, Dilong Youth Association (DYA) edged out Sports Society Suyim (SSS) via a tie-breaker.
On a day which witnessed two semi-final matches, the first match, played between Dilong Youth Association (DYA) and Sports Society Suyim (SSS) saw a heroic display from DYA goalkeeper Nungsangyanger who clinched the hope of SSS by blocking two shots in succession during the penalty shootout.
The match was evenly contested with both teams flirting around without payoff. But with the advent of the second half, the SSS boys showed more determination and would have been rewarded with a goal on one or more occasions had it not for the quick reflexive ability of DYA keeper Nungsangyanger, endeared and dubbed as ‘Superman’ by the supporters of DYA. The match came to an end without any concrete opportunity for both teams thus leading to the penalty shootout where DYA emerged victorious 3-1.
During the shootout, Temjenmeren, Manen and Inshalu found the net for DYA while Pamdibe of SSS was the lone player who could convert the goal for their team.
In the second semi-final match, a goal from Fusion SC striker Chubaangnen in the 58th minute was enough to catapult their team to defend their title against DYA in the finals.
The final of the MDFA trophy will be played on October 25 between defending champions Fusion SC and Dilong Youth Association from 1 pm at Imkongmeren Sports complex.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Bendanglila, will grace the ceremony as the chief guest.
