From 15 min to 12 hr: The ‘change’ in assembly session

Kohima Bureau Kohima, March 26 (EMN): After a tenure of an ‘opposition-less’ government, where the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) sittings have seen completion of listed business in less than 15 minutes, the assembly today sat for almost 12 hours: from 9.30 am till 9.26 pm. Monday’s sitting was the last day of the budget session. The session, scheduled to be held till 4 pm, was prolonged as 17 members participated in the general discussion on the budget for the year 2018-19. Speaker Vikho-o Yhoshü repeatedly reminded the members to be precise with their points during the discussion. Towards the end of the day, he disallowed some members of the treasury bench from the discussion. He however, gave time to the opposition members to raise their concerns. Both the leader of the House Neiphiu Rio and the leader of opposition TR Zeliang expressed appreciation to the speaker for his decision. The business listed for the day got transacted after 12 hours and Speaker Yhoshü adjourned the House sine die at exactly 9.26 pm.
