DIMAPUR — Japfu Christian College, Kigwema, and Kohima College, Kohima, marked their 29th fresher’s day and 58th foundation day celebrations, respectively, on Saturday.
At Japfu Christian College, Principal Prof. Visakhonu Hibo welcomed the incoming Class of 2025, expressed gratitude to God, and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of belonging among new students.
She encouraged them to “improve every day; work hard, play well, eat well, sleep well, and live well.”
Chairman of the board of management, Tuolie Seleyi, emphasised that education should be pursued not only for degrees but also for knowledge, wisdom, and spirituality, urging students to put God first in all their endeavours.
Guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Polan John, spoke on the holistic essence of college life, noting that true education includes values, decency, and productivity alongside academic excellence.
He urged students to remain curious, support each other, and believe in themselves, quoting Daniel Milstein: “You don’t get what you wish for — you become what you work for.”

The event also honoured two alumni achievers — Deputy Superintendent of Police Nisazolie Zutso and gold medallist in MA Sociology 2025 under Nagaland University Shipongngangla.
Meanwhile, Kohima College celebrated its 58th foundation day at the college courtyard, attended by family members of the founders, faculty, alumni, students, and dignitaries.
The occasion was attended by former minister Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, son of Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami, one of the founding members of Kohima College.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Kire offered a tribute to his late father—not only as one of the four founding members who built the college but also as a lifelong advocate for education—and shared personal anecdotes illustrating his father’s vision, perseverance, and love for learning.
Turning to the students, Dr. Kire encouraged them to uphold the “Four D’s” – discipline, devotion, dedication, and determination – and to remember the “Three T’s” – things take time – as guiding principles for success.
Earlier, chairperson Dr. Konei Nakhro, associate professor in the Department of Political Science, described the day as one of pride and gratitude, reflecting on the foresight of the founders in making education accessible to economically disadvantaged students.

Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü, acknowledging the founding members for building the college into what it is today, described the day as an occasion to honour student achievements, reflect on the blessings upon the institution, and commit to striving for greater heights.
Highlighting the recent successes of students in securing high ranks in Nagaland University examinations, he credited these accomplishments to the tireless efforts of the faculty, staff, and stakeholders, emphasising that this commemoration should serve as encouragement for present students.
C. Vezholu Kotso, alumna and assistant professor, reminiscing about her own journey as a student at Kohima College and now as a member of its faculty, expressed how deeply she values the memories and life lessons the institution had helped her build.
The Annual Academic Awards Ceremony, organised by the IQAC, honoured outstanding students across disciplines with scholar badges, departmental awards, special honours such as the Dr. Satuo Sekhose Star Pupil Award 2025, and University Topper recognitions.
Faculty members were also felicitated for publishing in University Grants Commission-Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (UGC-CARE) listed and reputed international journals.
