Clothing items kept on a pavement in Kohima

Kohima, Nov. 24 (EMN):
Inspired by the act of kindness from an anonymous ‘good Samaritan’ who left used clothes on Kohima footpath so that those in need could pick them up for free, more citizens have come forward to donate their reusable clothing items.

A few days ago, an unknown person had kept used clothes in a pavement at Upper PWD colony, opposite Faith Harvest Church in Kohima, with a note that read: “Pick any and whisper a prayer”.

A Naga youth, who came across the items, took a photograph of the items and posted it on social media, which went viral.

Encouraged by the unique act of generosity, people have started coming forward to donate more items, said Bano, a vegetable vendor, whose shop is situated right next to the spot where the items were kept.

Nobody knows who started it. However, after seeing the act of kindness, people have started donating their reusable clothes, she told Eastern Mirror on Tuesday.

Narrating her experience, Bano said that she was surprised to see the items next to her shop one morning and wondered who had suddenly started a thrift store there.

It was later during the day that she realised they were for free.

She said that few people had asked her about the price of the items, which she gladly replied that they’re for free.

By evening, the items dwindled, only to be filled with more the next morning. The boxes have not yet run empty so far, the 41-year-old vendor shared.

It was the first time in her three years of running the vegetable shop that such a beautiful act had happened, she said, adding that she would arrange the clothes in the morning for people to pick them up.
