MOKOKCHUNG — The fourth edition of Winter Night Carnival in Mokokchung, organised by the Adventure and Motorsport Association Mokokchung (AMAM), began on Monday at the Town Square (Police point).
Colonel Rahul Gurung, Commandant 12th Assam Rifles, Mokokchung, was the event's inaugural patron.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurung said that youths are society's strength and torchbearers. He mentioned that they play a viral role in nation-building and that the country's future is dependent on youth participation. He also lauded the youths for participating in sports and at the carnival as well.
In his welcome address, Moasashi Jamir, president of the Adventure and Motorsports Association Mokokchung (AMAM), said that the main goal of the carnival is to bring a festive atmosphere to the sleepy town, as well as to get people out of their cosy fireplaces and homes during the cold winter nights to explore and enjoy the various items in the various stalls.
He informed that AMAM is also providing a special kids play zone where children can enjoy the carnival's festivities, and added that the carnival can be summed up as an entirely family affair with good food, music, and merry making for all to enjoy. He maintained that the majority of the stalls are run by young people, giving them an opportunity to earn and instilling the adage "dignity of labour".
Over the next four nights, people can enjoy over 100 stalls featuring games, food, and various items. The winter carnival will conclude on December 22.
