Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): In connection with poaching of wild animals which went viral on social media, four suspects have surrendered to the Wildlife Wing, department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

A press release from the Chief Wildlife Warden informed that the four persons are Imchainba from Longkhum village; Osungkum N Jamir from Unger village; Yanger Jamir from Unger village; and Opangtemsu from Asangma village.

“This follows investigation by the department into the incident and zeroing down on the suspects seen in the video celebrating ‘lockdown festival,’ the release stated adding despite lacking technical capability, the department could trace and identify the culprits in question using its own resources.

The video depicts ruthless killing of wild animals including Barking deer and large Indian civet cat.

The release added that a case is being investigated further as per relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and other relevant laws as applicable.
