Dimapur, July 20 (EMN): The second meeting of Ghathashi, Mukalimi, Iphonumi and Hebolimi villages on Tsuyi River Conservation was held at Ghathashi council hall on July 20. It was organised by Ad hoc town council Ghathashi under the supervision of MLA Y Vikheho Swu of 13-AC Pughoboto.
During the meeting, Swu said that river conservation has been taken up many villages but “we also want to carry out this with a firm belief that it will enhance rural economy,” informed an update from the MLA’s assistant. It added that ‘all the rivers in Nagaland can be conserved, which will not only help us grow in economy but create a safe environment.’
With the belief that river conservation can boost the rural economy, four villages -- Ghathashi, Mukalimi, Iphonumi and Hebolimi -- under Pughoboto sub-division have come together to conserve Tsuyi river, said the update.
It informed that Tsuyi River originates from Iphonumi Shothasu area and merge with Doyang River at Awohumi and Kichilimi are, serving many villages. Now, the four villages have come up with an organised system to conserve the river within its jurisdiction under the name "Tsuyi Ghoki Pimhepivi Muqo" (Tsuyi River Conservation).
The campaign aims at bringing back the river to its pristine form and increase its environmental value, including creating an ideal ecosystem for various aquatic species to thrive. The people of the four villages also want to generate income from the project and share the profit equally among themselves.
