Imphal, Aug. 3 (EMN): Manipur Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh on Saturday said that four museums in Manipur will be soon upgraded to the international standard.
The four museums are Indian National Army (INA) museum at Moirang, Manipur State Museum, Imphal and two museums inside Kangla.
Launching the two-day national seminar on INA and North East India, at the INA Martyrs’ Complex, Moirang, 45 km south of Imphal, the minister said that despite being an intrinsic part of the Indian freedom struggle, the historical significance of Moirang is unfortunately unknown to many people in our country.
There is a need to propagate and create awareness on the significance of Moirang to the people of mainland India and beyond, he added.
The seminar was held in connection with the commemoration of 75th Anniversary of Indian national Army and Provisional Government of Free United India. It was organised by Maulana Abul Kalam Institute of Asian Studies, MAKAIAS, Kolkata.
Maintaining that the seminar will discover the important role played by the heroic forces of INA from the Northeast region, the minister said the people of Northeast India played a significant part and with their sustained efforts raised and maintained the structure of INA.
“The Battle of Imphal and the Battle of Kohima were recognised as one of the greatest battle fought during the freedom struggle of India. The contribution of the people of Northeast region in the battle had made them the greatest freedom fighters of the country,” he commended.
