Dimapur, April 30 (EMN):
Despite partial resumption of four-lane road construction in the stretch between Purana Bazaar and Chümoukedima, the project is almost certain to miss its deadline of May 2020, largely due to the nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection.

According to an engineer from TK Engineering Consortium Private Ltd., the firm executing the project, at the moment their works are limited to the construction of drainages and road dividers along the stretch.

He said that around 75% of the total works have been completed.

Considering the uncertainty that continues to surround the duration of lockdown—whether it will be extended or not—he was unable to say when the construction works will complete.

He added that ‘the continuation of works also depends on the availability of raw materials’.

If ‘all the materials are available’, according to the engineer, the works will ‘definitely complete within this year’.

He said that all raw materials, except cement and steel, are procured from within the state.

The firm intends to complete the works by this year, he added.

Another factor that would influence the outcome is the monsoon rains, the source reminded, while pointing out that pre-monsoon days are already here.

When asked about the availability of labour for construction works, he informed that during the first lockdown period, few of them had left.

‘But when second lockdown was announced, all of them arrived at the construction site. There is no issue of shortage of workforce at the moment,’ he said.
