Four jawans injured in Manipur blast

IMPHAL, May 19 (EMN): Four Manipur police personnel including a Sub-Inspector (SI) were seriously injured in a bomb attack in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar on Friday, sources said.

Suspected militants set off the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at around 1 p.m. as the police personnel were patrolling in between Kwatha and Khudengthabi for the movement of Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Laishram Sushindro, who was returning from Kwatha, a remote village, about 100 km south of state capital, after attending a function. The security personnel also retaliated.

On hearing about the news, additional team of State forces and Assam Rifles rushed to the area and conducted massive manhunt. There has been no report of arrest till the time of filing this report. At the same time, no armed groups have claimed responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile, the injured personnel including constables Sh Gourahari (28) of Andro, N Bishwantah (31) of Top Khongnangkhong, Ak Martinstar of Naharup and SI Lalminthang Hmangte (33) were evacuated to hospitals in Imphal for further treatment. Two out of the four were stated to be critical. All the injured belonged to Imphal East district police and presently attached at Moreh Police Station.

It may be mentioned here that on May 8, two jawans of 165 Battalion Territorial Army were killed while two others sustained injuries in a similar bomb attack at Lokchao also in Tengnoupal district.
