Four extortionists held in Dimapur

DIMAPUR police arrested four extortionists in three separate incidents in Dimapur town.

According to a release issued by ASP/PRO Dimapur on Thursday, Special Branch personnel on October 15 arrested two extortionists while they were extorting money from shopkeepers in New Market and recovered Rs 2860 from their possession. While one of them has been identified as Vikheto Yeptho, 30, son of Shenito Yeptho, of Tokishe village, Dimapur, who claimed to be a section officer of GPRN/NSCN, the other was identified as Kisheto Zhimomi, 30, son of Mivushe Zhimomi, of Khatavi village under Zunheboto district. Both are reportedly residents of Thilixu village, Dimapur.

In another incident on October 16, Dimapur West police arrested an extortionist while he was demanding Rs 10,000 from a 45-year-old woman at Duncan Basti. The accused has reportedly identified himself as a Special Branch personnel to make the demand. The arrested was found with a dummy toy pistol with which he threatened the woman.

In yet another incident on October 17, Dimapur East police personnel arrested an extortionist armed with an M20 pistol while he was extorting money. He was demanding Rs 5000 from hardware and electrical store shop located at Nagarjan junction. The arrested also threatened the shopkeeper with dire consequences if his demand was not met. He has been identified as Khekavi Aye, 24, son of Zhetovi Aye, of Asukuto village, Zunheboto and present resident of Bank Colony, Dimapur. He claimed to be a ‘lance corporal’ from GPRN/NSCN. Police recovered the M20 pistol with 8 live ammunition from a pharmacy located nearby the shop from the accused after he tried to dispose the arm and flee the scene.

Cases have been registered in these connections.
