Fortified rice awareness programme held in Longleng

Longleng division of the Food and Civil Supplies department organised a one-day awareness programme on fortified rice.

DIMAPUR — Longleng division of the Food and Civil Supplies department organised a one-day awareness programme on fortified rice on August 10 at the VCC and VDB conference hall.

Shan Ezung, state technical officer from PATH, conducted a session on rice fortification. He explained the significance of fortified rice and its micronutrient content including Iron, Vitamin B12, and Folic Acid.

He also clarified that fortified rice is not plastic rice but rice kernels blended with micronutrients to combat malnutrition and anaemia. He further highlighted that various fortified items are distributed through food safety networks.

The event saw the participation of around 200 persons including fair price shop owners, ward chairpersons, village chairpersons, GBs, civil societies and beneficiaries.
