Dimapur, Dec. 10 : Former Congress leader Hewoto Awomi and former candidate for Dimapur 1 assembly constituency Pukhavi Yepthomi have been inducted into the Dimapur division of the NPF party on Saturday, December 10.
They were inducted at a programme that was held at SM College auditorium, at Landmark colony in Dimapur.
Addressing the NPF party workers, former Congress legislator Awomi remarked that the NPF party was a regional party and ‘the only party that can achieve something for the people.’ With collective efforts from party workers, the NPF can be strengthened to work for the people, he said.
Awomi also claimed that NPF party workers were not ‘opportunists but dedicated workers’ who have ‘committed to the interest of the party’. He said that ‘party cannot favour two or three people for a single constituency or a ward’ but that the organisation should be ‘firm in whatever decision is taken.’
He explained that ‘relatives, family and friends circle’ was ‘different from the party circle.’ He said that the latter aspect should be the primary interest. Awomi also maintained that the NPF party had given him a ‘political identity.’
Hewoto Awomi contested in the Nagaland Assembly elections in 2003 as the NPF candidate for Dimapur-II constituency and defeated Congress candidate Imtisunget Jamir.
Awomi defected to the Congress in 2008 and contested for the Ghaspani-I constituency defeating NPF candidate Khekiho Zhimomi.
In the 2013 Nagaland Assembly Elections Awomi contested for the Ghaspani-II constituency as the Congress candidate, but was defeated by sitting MLA Zhaleo Rio, NPF candidate.
Pukhavi Yepthomi, an independent candidate from Dimapur 1 assembly constituency and former Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) member also spoke during the event.
Claiming that the NPF party led by Chief Minister TR Zeliang and NPF President Dr. Surhozelie was ‘corruption free and peaceful,’ the politician said to have requested the organisation for enrolment ‘so that he can work under their dynamic leadership.’
Yepthomi also expressed optimism that the Naga political problem would be ‘solved only through the NPF party.’ Expressing contentment to be working under Zeliang and Dr. Surhozilie, Yepthomi requested the party workers ‘for guidance’ as he was ‘new to the party oblivious of the NPF protocol.’
