Former minister Dr. TM Lotha passes away at 68
Dimapur, March 26 (EMN): Former Minister from Wokha Dr. T Myinthungo Lotha popularly known as Dr. TM Lotha has passed away on Wednesday early Thursday morning from Dr. Motsuo Memorial Hospital Wokha after a brief illness at the age of 68.
Dr. TM Lotha was a medical doctor and joined the government service as an Assistant Surgeon in 1977.
He later joined active politics and contested during the sixth general election of the state in November, 1987 as an NNDP candidate from 38th Wokha Assembly Constituency but lost. He contested again from the same constituency on an NPC ticket in general election held in January 1989 and got elected. Later he was appointed as the Minister for Housing and Fire Services .
After a decade, in 2003 he won again from the same constituency and was later appointed Minister of Home and Medical.
After losing yet another term in 2008 he was elected from the same constituency in 2013 on an NCP ticket.
During his lifetime, Dr. TM Lotha also served as the President of Naga Students’ Union, Assam Medical College 1974; Secretary, Naga Students’ Union Dibrugarh 1975; President, Student Christian Movement, Assam Medical College 1975; Peace Mission Member, Naga Hoho 1996; Executive Member, Lotha Hoho 1994-2003; Chairman, Political Affairs Committee 2008-2012.
According to family sources the funeral will be held on March 27 at his residence in Wokha at 10 in the morning. After the funeral his mortal remains will then be taken to his native village Longsa for burial.
