DIMAPUR — A special bowling session was held on Thursday at the semi-indoor facility of the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima, conducted under the supervision of Debasish Mohanty, head coach of the senior men's team for the 2024-25 season.

“Mohanty’s expertise provided the participants with valuable insights and techniques during the intensive practice session. His guidance was well-received, with players eagerly absorbing the knowledge shared,” stated a press release.

Mohanty, a former Indian cricketer, played in two Test matches and 45 One Day Internationals between 1997 and 2001. A right-arm medium-fast bowler, Mohanty was particularly successful in limited-overs cricket, averaging under 30 and consistently taking wickets.

During the 1999 Cricket World Cup, he formed a strong new ball partnership with Venkatesh Prasad, emerging as the second-highest Indian wicket-taker despite playing fewer games than his peers. In 2020, Mohanty was appointed as a national selector for the India cricket team.

Speaking on the occasion, Hyunilo, honorary secretary of the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), emphasised the importance of such training opportunities for the development of cricket in Nagaland and expressed gratitude for the presence of a coach of Mohanty's calibre.
