Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): In an alarming development, 240kg of fish treated with formalin was seized in Zunheboto. It came a few days after 1700 kg of fish laced with the banned preservative substance was disposed off by the authorities in Kohima.
A press release from CMO office, Zunheboto, stated that a ‘joint inspection was carried out by Dr. C.W.Tungoe, CMO-cum-designated officer, Dr. K. Akaho Sema, Dy. CMO and food safety officer assisted by the district administration and police after the sample from the district was tested positive for formalin.’
The statement said that about ‘240kg of different varieties of fish sold in contravention to government’s directive in December last year were seized and disposed off at Zunheboto Town Council dumping site.
