Kohima, March 26 (EMN): The Kohima Forest division under the department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, on Friday launched the “Green Box” initiative at the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCI) in Kohima.
Divisional forest officer (DFO), Rajkumar M, while speaking at the function, informed that 51 books basing on environment conservation, wildlife and climate change were distributed to three villages namely Zhadima village under Chiephobozou range, Jakhama village under Kohima range, and Sendenyu village under Tseminyu range during the programme. The officer also assured to initiate a ‘green library’ for Sendenyu village.
The books, both new and used books, were donated by the department. The department intended to reach out to more villages. In this regard, he urged the public to donate used books to the department.
The idea of donating books was initiated with the hope to create a positive impact as reading is something personal to an individual, the officer added. He further informed that a person, who personally learns through books, would spread and share the same message to others.
He further informed that the initiative was undertaken under the pilot project “Project Future” which was started in April last year. Other activities under the project included online competition, video lessons, setting up of signages in Kohima along with the police.
