Dimapur, July 26 (EMN): Continuing with its crackdown on food outlets serving ‘unhygienic food,’ food safety officials of Kohima inspected two bakeries namely ‘Mums Bakery’ and ‘Best Bakery’ located at Merhülietsa colony in Kohima, on Thursday.
A press release from the authorities informed that hygiene and sanitary conditions were found lacking, during the course of inspection. “Therefore an improvement notice under Section 32 of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 was served to the two units by the designated officer-cum-chief medical officer, Dr. Ritu Thurr.”
It was informed that ‘follow-up inspection drive’ will continue in other bakeries, and restaurants and hotels within the district.
Wokha follows suit
Similar enforcement was conducted at Wokha town on Thursday by a team of officers from the district’s chief medical establishment and the district’s administration, and police personnel.
“During the inspection drive it was found that most of the bakeries lacked hygiene and were prepared under unsanitary conditions. The food handlers in the restaurants were seen working without proper headgear, gloves, and aprons. The inspection team also seized 17 kilos of expired baking ingredients and 14 kilos of cookies prepared under unhygienic conditions which were later disposed.
‘Notice of improvement has been issued to two baking units which have to be complied within a month, failing which their license will be suspended. Further the shops without FSSAI license and the medical fitness certificate for the food handlers are hereby informed to obtain the same from the office of the chief medical officer, Wokha. The chief medical officer has warned that similar inspection of all the other food establishments will be carried out from time to time,’ the press release stated.
