FOCUS project: FIR against officials just tip of all pervasive cancer of corruption, says NPCC

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has termed the recent filing of FIR by the CBI against one additional secretary in the Department of Agriculture, Nagaland, and two other high-ranking officials working in the Fostering Climate-Resilient Upland Farming System (FOCUS) project, in a bribery case involving more than INR two crore, as just the tip of an all pervasive cancer of corruption.

The NPCC, in a press release, said the bribery case was shocking but along expected lines, “considering the strangle hold of corruption on all levels of governance in the state authored and patronised by the morally bankrupt oppositionless government.”

“While we laud the welcome intervention of the law enforcement agency in the case, it is nowhere near enough, because what we are witnessing here, as awful as it looks, is just the tip of an all pervasive mammoth iceberg of cancer eating away at the rights and wellbeing of the common people of Nagaland, one painful bite at a time,” the NPCC said.

It went on to state that “the rot is rot is systemic, entrenched and starts at the top, necessitating a troubleshooting exercise at a scale much more proportionate than the one under play now.”

While condemning the fallout of corruption unfolding before the eyes of the public, the NPCC called upon the powers that be to mend their ways lest the culture of decadence and ineptitude “drags us all down to a point of no return.”
