Dimapur, Oct. 8 (EMN): Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) and Mission Director, Y Kikheto Sema on Friday emphasised on the importance of learning new and innovative farming technologies for agricultural growth in Nagaland during a meeting with the officials of FAO India (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations).

The APC along with the FOCUS-Nagaland (Fostering Climate Resilient Upland Farming Systems in the Northeast –Nagaland) project team met with the officials of FAO India led by the country’s representative, Tomio Shichiri at Nagaland House in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Sema appealed to the FAO to organise exposure visits of both the officers and farmers to different parts of the country and even to other countries with similar agro-climatic conditions and farming practices, informed an update from DIPR.

It was informed that the FAO, a partner organisation in the FOCUS project, provides various training and handholding support to key interventions planned under the project.

Earlier in the day, Sema along with Jt Secy and SPD of FOCUS-Nagaland, S Tainiu met with Jt Secy, Department of Economic Affairs, GoI, Manisha Sinha, to brief her of the FOCUS-Nagaland project and also discuss the issue of Advance Grant from IFAD to which an assurance was given.

The inclusion of the new districts – Noklak, Peren and Tuensang – in the FOCUS project was also discussed at the meeting, it was informed.
