Imphal, July 22 (EMN): On the theme “there is strength within her to empower her community”, one day flower show cum sales was held under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme at Senapati district on Saturday with Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Senapati district Athem Muivah as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Athem said ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) was a very unique programme as it involves all the different government departments and NGOs. Stating that the society was much advance than the rest of the country in terms empowerment of girls are concerned, he appealed to all the stake-holders, government departments, NGOs, publics, etc., to join hand and work together for the successful implementation for this project as well as the other projects for the development of the district.In her key note address, ICDS District Programme Officer L. Ela A Magdalene said Senapati district was the lone district selected for ‘BBBP’ programme which was started in 2015, in the state. The programme which aims to prevent gender biased sex selective elimination, ensuring survival and protection of the girl child and ensuring education and participation of the girl child, was implemented about 161 project sites across the country, said Magdalene.
Further she said, apart from forming BBBP task force at District and Block-Level, the district authority is also planning to organise street plays, media campaigns, documentation, BBBP Awards and observation of Girl Child Day.
In the show, ICDS Kangpokpi Nag, ICDS Accord SHG and ICDS Tadubi SHG were selected as first, second and third best group respectively. The function was held under the aegis of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) of the district.
