Mokokchung, June 10 (EMN): In a shocking incident a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 19-year old man at Mongsenbai ward in Mokochung town on Saturday night.
Police sources said that the accused was arrested on Sunday. The alleged rapist has been identified as Limatoshi from Longsa village, it was informed. According to the FIR report, the incident happened at 8 pm.
A source said that the accused attempted to rape the victim who was his paternal uncle’s step-daughter. Upon hearing the screams of the victim, the parents rushed to the room and rescued the minor, it was informed.
After the incident came to light a huge crowd gathered at the spot and produced the alleged accused to the Mongsenbai ward authority, who later handed him over, along with an FIR, to personnel of Mokokchung Police Station-II.
Simultaneously, the Mongsenyimti Senso Telongjem Mokochung Town has also filed an FIR against the accused.
Police source disclosed that medical examination has been conducted on the victim, while also the accused has ‘confessed to the crime.’
The superintendent of Mokokchung police Raguramarajan informed this correspondent that the accused has been kept in judicial custody and booked under U/S 4 Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, or the POCSO.
Raguramarajan added that thorough investigation was on and that the police will be preparing the charge sheet in few days’ time.
