Five members of same family killed in Diwali fire tragedy in Nagaland

DIMAPUR — Five people were charred to death and 28 houses were reduced to ashes in a major fire that broke out late Sunday night (on Diwali) at Ward 10, Naharbari, in Dimapur, Nagaland.

According to an officer from the Fire department, the cause of the fire is suspected to be either due to lighting of diyas or fireworks.

The five people killed in the tragic fire incident are said to be from the same family, including the father, mother and three children.

The officer said that there were no other cases of injuries but at least 40 families were affected by the incident.

After receiving a call at 10:46 pm on Sunday night about the inferno, firefighters reached the site around 11 pm and were able to douse the fire by 12:55 am, according to the fire personnel.

Sources said that property worth INR 73.33 lakh were also damaged by the inferno.
