Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): A three-day training programme was organised by the department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for fish farmers in Kohima district from November 13 to the 15th at the government fish farm at Thizama.
The skill development event focused on ‘recent advances in aquaculture,’ updates stated.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates to the media on Saturday informing about the training programme.
The farmers were trained in pre stocking management and post stocking management, taught by resource person Yitsemo Kikon; integrated fish farming, fish diseases and composite fish farming, taught by Wabang Longkumer; fish processing, taught by C Dory Yanthan, and a field demonstration on the methods of feed preparation, manure use, water parameters, and plankton estimation, taught by Impangtiba, the updates stated.
During the valedictory programme, an official C Dory Yanthan, told the participants that fish contribute immensely to human nutrition and is profitable. She urged the participants to go for large-scale fish farming. Likewise, she urged young people to join the industry because there is huge potential for income generation and domestic consumption, the IPR stated.
From among the participants Vinyu Yiese from Kohima village spoke from his experience in fish farming. He urged fellow participants to give their full effort in the venture for more income generation. About 50 farmers attended the training event, the updates stated.
