First Tuensang district Chess championship-cum-coaching camp rescheduled

Dimapur, May 4 (EMN): The first Tuensang District Chess championship-cum-coaching camp (including Shamator district and Noklak district), which was earlier schedule to be held from May 5 to the 10th has been deferred to June 8 till the 11th.

An update informed that the event is being organised by Youth Resources and Sports department (YRS), govt. of Nagaland in collaboration with Nagaland Chess Association (NCA).

During the tournament, NCA will set up Tuensang District Chess Association, Shamator District Chess Association and Noklak District Chess Association units. Therefore, Chess enthusiasts from the three districts are asked to attend the event.

The entry fee for the coaching camp will be free and anybody can register for it. However, the participants of the championship are requested to pay registration fee of INR 500 for open and U-14 category, INR 300 for U-18 category, while physically-challenged persons need not pay registration/entry fee.

Interested persons may contact or pay the entry fee to S Litingse Sangtam (A/C-31513155237 SBI, IFSC: SBIN0003598 or Google pay/paytm at 9612866445). The last date of registration is June 6. All participants (both for coaching and tournament) are required to fill up the following particulars — name, Aadhaar card, mobile number, district, birth certificate for U-14 and U-18 — while non-local participants: produce residential proof, office ID  and student ID card, it read.

Meanwhile, the Youth Resources and Sports department in collaboration with NCA may organise coaching camp on rotation basis in all the districts in Nagaland as the benefits of teaching Chess to kids and integrating it into the educational curriculum extend far beyond academic capabilities. It said that Chess students learn to analyse, plan and perform both on board and in real life, adding that renowned Chess players have been observed to have better academic performance.
