First tribal festival Aadi Mahotsav begins in Dimapur

Aug. 10.[/caption] Eastern Mirror Desk Dimapur, Aug. 10: In a bid to promote tribal handicraft and handloom products of Northeast region, the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd. (Trifed), Ministry of Tribal Affairs is hosting the Nagaland's first Aadi Mahotsav in Dimapur. The Aadi Mahotsav, a celebration of the tribal culture, craft, cuisine and commerce being organised by Trifed Guwahati was inaugurated on Fri. Aug. 10 by Nagaland Marketing Cooperative Federation Limited (Marcofed) Managing Director T Vikuto Zhimo. Addressing a press conference after the inauguration of the festival at Durga Mandir Hall, Trifed regional manager, MR Singh said five states from Northeast - Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Nagaland are participating and artisans from other states are also expected to arrive soon. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs aims to promote the tribal market of Northeast through such events, he said. Altogether 35 participants have confirmed, he informed. “The Aadi Mahotsav aims to improve the livelihood of indigenous communities by creating a sustainable market and business opportunities for our tribal's based on their culture, knowledge and traditional skills while ensuring fair and equitable remuneration through marketing of their products all over India,” Vikuto Zhimo said. Zhimo was optimistic that through this Aadi Mahotsav mela will help tribal's celebrate the spirit of tribal culture, craft, cuisine and commerce, and also provide tribal artisans to exhibit their products cum sale and channelise tribal natural skills and provide them source of income. The ten-day 'Tribes India' Aadi Nahotsav is being held at the Durga Mandir Hall, old daily market in Dimapur which will be open from 10 am to 8 pm from Aug. 10-19.
