First TM Wati Volleyball Tournament 2022 underway

Mokokchung, Dec. 19 (EMN): First TM Wati Volleyball Tournament 2022 organised by Rising Star Sporting Club got underway at Jungli Arjuma, Mokokchung Village on December 19.

Moasangba Jamir, President NPF Mokokchung division, kicked off the tournament as the guest of honour.

Jamir, in his address, said during a decade associated with various sports associations as a sports lover, he has witnessed many players who have achieved success in life because of their hard work, dedication and persistence. He added that they achieved success because they were disciplined in life.

In this regard, he urged the players to have discipline in life and achieve success in their respective fields through hardwork and dedication because today, the government has launched various opportunities for players who excel and bring laurels to the nation.

He also opined that games and sports were started to bring peace and harmony to the world, therefore, urged the people to understand that as citizens, they are responsible for the success of the tournament and alleviate the tourney to greater heights, while keeping in mind that sports and games is meant to bring peace and unity.

“Games and sports should be played not to divide the teams but should be played to bring peace and unity in our society,” he asserted.

Village Council Chairman Mokokchung village also spoke at the event. He urged participating teams to play in the true sense of sportsmanship. Despite the change in the nomenclature of the tournament, he said the tournament has given a platform to many players and has produced positive results as they are performing in both state and national levels.   

Altogether, nine teams are participating in the three-day tournament which will culminate on December 21. The champion of the tourney will walk away with a cash prize of INR 30,000, trophy and certificates while the runner-up will be receiving INR 15,000 along with certificates. The organisers also arranged individual prizes for best setter, best spiker and player of the tournament.
