Karbi Anglong district, which is in the first phase, began the Gunotsav with self-evaluation by school managing committee (SMC) members, with external evaluation beginning on Thursday. It will conclude on January 6.

The Gunotsav is being held in 1,252 schools from Class I to Class IX, with a total enrollment of 74,698 students spread across the educational blocks of Bokajan, Howraghat, Samelangso, Rongmongve, Lumbajong, Nilip, and Langsomepi.

The Guardian Minister for Hill Areas (HAD), Jogen Mohan, participated in the Gunotsav as an external evaluator on the first day of the external evaluation, inspecting various schools between Manja and Diphu.

In the morning, the minister went to Mohongdijua High School in Mohongdijua, where he gave students reading and writing tests. He was joined by the MLA of Diphu Bidyasing Engleng, district commissioner Madhumita Bhagawati, and school inspector Biren Engti. The minister also inspected the school campus to ensure that hygiene and cleanliness were maintained.

One of the students informed the minister about the need for a separate girls’ toilet during an interactive session. The minister directed that an estimate be prepared for the immediate construction of the girl’s toilet.

Parents present at the meeting informed the minister of the need for a boundary wall around the school campus to prevent anti-social elements from breaking school windows, doors, and properties.

Informing media persons regarding the same, the minister said that conducting Gunotsav has brought change in education in Assam and noted that there has been development in the academic aspects.
