[dropcap]F[/dropcap]or the first time in the medical history of Tamenglong district the routine major operation started on Saturday at the District Hospital Tamenglong the only FRU (First Referral Unit) of the District, according Chief Medical Officer(CMO) Dr Chambo Gonmei of Tamenglong district.
Delivered a baby girl through Caesarean section at the Operation Theatre at 1.13 pm today by Dr Thangjam Imochaobi Singh, Gynaecologist and assisted by Dr Angkhong Rongmei, General Surgeon, Dr H Subhashchandra Singh, Anaesthetist and Dr M Neison, Paediatrician who were posted for 2 months rotational deputation, says CMO in a press release.
“We are trying our best to make the District Hospital Tamenglong 24×7 fully functional. Blood Storage Facility will be available by next week,” it said. “If it is so then we may not refer cases to Imphal for further management.”Moreover the Health Director cum State Mission Director Dr O Ibomcha Singh under his dynamic leadership is fully committed to upgrade health sector in all the hill districts of Manipur. The medical faculty of the District Hospital Tamenglong is grateful to Dr O Ibomcha Singh, Director Health and SMD for his unstinted effort to improve the health quality services of the hospital. More manpower and infrastructure is required to make it feasible to conduct routine operations without any interruption.
It is worthwhile mentioning that during the Surgical Outreach Camp held at the District Hospital Tamenglong for as many as 7 times by a Surgical Team led by Dr N Jitendra, Associate Professor (Surgery), JNIMS had successfully conducted 83 major and 78 minor cases benefitting the distant and poor people living in the district,the release added.
