The inaugural Longleng District Football League commenced on June 12 with a call for players to aim for national levels.

DIMAPUR — The first edition of the Longleng District Football League, organised by the Longleng District Football Association (LDFA), commenced at the Public Ground in Longleng on June 12.
President of the Phom Sports Association, S Yanger Angh, attended the inaugural programme as the special guest, stated a DIPR report.
In his address, the special guest urged players to aim for the state and national levels. Describing football as more than just a sport, he underscored its role in instilling discipline, dedication, respect, and a never-giving-up spirit among the youth, while calling on the players to remain humble and uphold the values of the game.
He further encouraged the young footballers to treat every tournament as a stepping stone for greater opportunities with dedication and hard work and to represent the district, the state, and the nation.

The event saw participation from local clubs and youth teams across the district, with officials from the Department of Youth Resources and Sports also in attendance. The inaugural programme concluded with a pledge by the players to uphold fair play and discipline on and off the field.
President of the All Ward Union Longleng, Atok N Phom, in his exhortation, said the kick-off of the first LDFA league tournament is a monumental milestone.
Congratulating the LDFA for the initiative, he said it lays the foundations for generations of the Phom community. Encouraging the players, he said the tournament is proof that Longleng is moving forward and the youth are ready to compete, excel, and conquer.
He expressed hope that the first edition of the league would be the breeding ground for the future of the state and the nation.
