First edition of Dr. Savizo N Yhome Memorial Tennis Cup underway

Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): The first edition of Dr. Savizo N Yhome Memorial Tennis Cup got underway at Chavino Peseyie Tennis Complex, Kuda village in Dimapur on February 25. The tournament is being organised by KDTA and DDTA and hosted by Nagaland Lawn Tennis Association (NLTA), and sponsored by late Savizo N Yhome families and friends.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of KDTA, Vilhoubeilie Solo said that late Yhome was an inspiration in many ways and was a person to look up to.

Solo added that organising the Cup was a befitting way to celebrate his short and vibrant life. The president of KDTA also acknowledge late Yhome’s wife for supporting them and sponsoring the event, which will be held annually.

Solo hoped that tennis will grow in Nagaland with this humble project and opined that it would boost the younger generation to take the torch forward.

Dr. Kenei Miachieo said that late Yhome passionate about tennis at a young age and added that he lived a peaceful and beautiful life.

“Late Yhome always tried to bring people together and encourage people to achieve higher in life,” he said and added that this tournament would bring people together and expressed hope  that it would provide a much needed platform to improve the skills of the tennis players.

While giving his speech and declaration of the tournament open,  director of the tournament Asa Khate said that it is a golden initiative taken by late Yhome’s family members.

Khate remember late Yhome as a great tennis player and added that whether  he won or loss, he had an undying spirit.
Khate added that this tournament will motivate the youth of Nagaland and other players from Northeast as well.

32 players will take part in the three- day tournament and will conclude on February 27.

In both men’s singles and doubles event, the winners will take home a cash prize of INR 50,000, and runners-up would receive a cash prize of INR 30,000 while the semi-finalists will receive a cash prize of 10,000 and quarter-finalists will receive a cash prize of INR 2000.
