First Covid-19 death reported in Manipur

Dimapur, July 29 (EMN): Manipur reported first Covid-19 death in the state on Wednesday as a 56-year-old in-patient at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal passed away.

This was informed by All India Radio News Imphal in an update on Wednesday morning.

“The patient from Sapam Laibung Leikai Khongjom of Thoubal district was admitted to RIMS hospital few months ago for renal problem (dialysis). However, he was confirmed of Covid-19 along with his son who takes care of him at (the) hospital some days ago,” it informed.

The patient reportedly died in the wee hours of July 29, at around 2.30 am.

“Currently, his son is getting treatment at UNACCO CCC,” it added.

As on July 28, Manipur’s Covid-19 tally stands at 2317 with 702 active cases and 1615 recoveries.

The state registered first Covid-19 case in the Northeast India after a 23-year-old woman, a returnee from the United Kingdom, tested positive for the virus at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal on March 24 this year.
