It was to be just another day Just another day in a calendar None wary of the tragedy ahead The sinister clouds of death hovering above The universe conspiring against the mortals The killers- Disregard of the uniform they To trample humanity with their badge of honour To wipe their bloody hands with tri colour flag To quench their thirst on the blood of the innocents To feed on the flesh of the unarmed victims Not the battle it was to be No honour in it No valour to display A killing machine in a killing field To drink to stupor of the blood Drunken revelry of the blood Ghastly murder they relish Unsatiated and remorseless Yet Disgraced and shamed deep down it was not a battle they fought but sheer massacre of the hapless not a finger raised against them not a twig broken or a pebble thrown at them Injured women and children screaming for help Old man running for safety A young driver boy dashing for cover Unarmed captive soldier pleading for mercy No, a pre-mediated blood bath it is Blood frenzied, the executioners Pumping leads at point blank None to spare Fury to the brim Soldiers they aren’t Regular mercenaries they are Sun blotted with smoking barrel Drain choked with innocent’s blood spill Bodies adorn the sidewalk Overdosed with blood and flesh Dishonoured and embarrassed Hastily the killers retreat Leaving the slain to mourn it’s own death. On this day August 28, 2015, ITC, Pangsha,Noklak, The Indian Army and Assam Rifles combined attacked a convoy of two vehicles and a motorcycle in which the families and unarmed, un-uniformed NSCN cadres, innocent civilians of the area including women and children were travelling to Pounyu village after attending Medical camp at Pangsha. Nine Naga travellers including five unarmed NSCN workers were killed after they were rounded up by the killers who emerged from all sides of the road and surrounded the convoy. Sniper Rifles and lethal explosives were used against these unarmed Nagas and despite the victims identifying themselves as non-combatants were all shot at point blank. The driver of the vehicle, a young boy, who escaped was chased for around half a kilometre and killed at point blank and the dead body was concealed, it was recovered by the villagers of the area after two days search. Two civilian konyak citizens travelling to Pounyu village were also killed, one of the Konyak victim escaped from the vehicle and was running uphill with hands raised shouting that he was a public, he was however shot on the hip with a sniper rifle and later exploded to death with 40 MM grenade. The wife and husband were also killed same time on the spot, the wife was shot with a sniper on the face and half the torso was blown away. An unarmed Naga soldier who was not hit at the first cycle of firing was dragged down from the vehicle and shot at point blank in presence of few survivors. A nurse from Pounyu village, two local civilians and another wife of NSCN member were grievously injured and still recovering in Hospitals after the lapse of one year. All this happened in a broad daylight, the NSCN families were travelling to Pounyu to host the visit of NMA delegation the next day at Pounyu and the rest were returning after attending a medical camp that was held at Pangsha village, the Assam Rifles at Noklak gave clearance that NSCN member could also attend the medical camp without uniform and Arms and accordingly unaware of their plot did so only to be massacred. This very day is a grim reminder of the nearly 70 years of killings being committed on the Nagas irrespective of affiliation by occupational Indian Army, it is a call to every patriotic Naga to unite, fight and expel the marauding killers of innocent Nagas in the garb of Indian Army and Assam Rifles uniforms. The dead are no more with us but their sacrifice shall continue to inspire generation and generations to fight for the honour, identity and freedom of our land and her people for time and times to come. Col.Isak Sumi In remembrance of those martyred and injured.
