DIMAPUR — Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of 46 Mon town AC, Y Mankhao Konyak, launched the ‘First 1000 Days' programme on Wednesday in the conference hall of the District Hospital, Mon.
Speaking at the programme, Konyak thanked the government for launching the programme especially for the less fortunate section of people in the rural areas. He called upon all the participants to come out of their comfort zone and take a step ahead in order to bring a change, stated an update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Mon.

“Be a little more compassionate, a little more tolerant towards the needy,” he urged the participants.
He also requested the medical department, allied departments and NGOs to use the platform of churches and other possible means to spread awareness on the importance of child health and ante-natal care. He pointed out that life in the villages concern most on going to the fields and providing two meals a day for the family.
“People still believe in hunting a squirrel and feeding a three month-old baby instead of six months exclusive breastfeeding,” he added.
Konyak further wished the department a successful implementation of the programme in the district.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]A powerpoint presentation was made by Dr. Wungyong Konyak, DPO (RCH/UIP), wherein he shared on the importance of first 1000 days, critical interventions in the 1000 days, status of ante-natal care coverage (ANC) in the state, and government schemes for the first 1000 days.
The importance of ante-natal care and hospital delivery was presented by Dr. Aman Konyak, Obs & Gynae at DH Mon, while Dr. Chimang Paul, paediatrician at DH, Mon, shared on breastfeeding: the complete nutrition of early childhood development and the importance of vaccination in children.
Meanwhile, the DPO from Social Welfare, Mon, T Yanlem explained the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vantana Yojna (PMMVY) scheme and nutritional support during the first 1000 days, followed with a technical explanation by N Gongnyei Konyak, PMMVY district coordinator.

The BPM of NSRLM-RD, Mon, S Yatao Konyak, presented on the social behaviour communication change (SBCC) through self help group (SHG) institutions, while Dr. Wungyong also explained the components of village health sanitation and nutrition day (VHSND).
In conclusion, the CMO of Mon, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo, spoke on issues and challenges and promotional activities of the programme.
After the lunch programme, a technical session on conducting quality ANC, prevention, identification and management of pre-eclapsia and eclapsia, point of care testing in ANC, HIV-Syphilis and Hepatitis B screening in pregnancy, high risk pregnancy was conducted for the medical officers, nurses, community health officers and programme managers.
