Reports from the security force and Fire department officials said that the fire started on Friday night at around 12:00 am. The combined efforts of Fire personnel and the Assam Rifles brought the fire under control at around 2:00 am. The fire resurfaced at around 11:30 am today. The Firemen and 44th Assam Rifles had a tough time containing the fire as it had already reached some of the military quarters. The inferno was finally doused off at around 2:30 pm this afternoon.The 44th Assam Rifles’ commanding officer Col Kataria said that both his men and Fire service personnel were pressed into action so that flames would not reach the public areas. The colonel added that there was no loss of life or damage to property. However, an area around three square kilometres of forest was razed. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time this report was going to press.
