DIMAPUR — At least four shops were burnt down in a fire that broke out near Nagarjan Traffic Point, Dimapur, on Sunday at around 2 pm.

When contacted, the duty commandant of Central Fire Station told Eastern Mirror that after the station received a distress call at around 2:31 pm, three fire tenders were pressed into action. It took 35 minutes for the fire personnel to extinguish the inferno, he said.

Timely intervention by the fire personnel prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining areas. There was also no report of any casualty or injury.

The four shops destroyed by the fire included a mattress shop, photo frame shop, poultry shop and bicycle repair shop.

According to fire officials, the cause of the fire is suspected to be due to an electric short circuit.
